How do I obtain an imported car insurance quotation?

Will all insurers cover my imported vehicle?

It is becoming more common for insurers to cover imported vehicles however most insurers still will not automatically cover an imported vehicle on a standard car policy.

What are parallel and grey imports?

When searching for an imported car to buy you may come across the names parallel import this relates to cars that have a UK equivalent such as Opel and Vauxhall. Grey imports refer to cars manufactured outside the UK then imported due to the vehicle not being available on the UK market

My Car is on a Chassis number can I get insurance cover?

Again most insurers will not allow cover to be issued on a chassis number but when the vehicle is first imported into the UK the car will not have a UK registration number and will also need to go through a SVA test. Once it has been passed the DVLA will allow it to be issued with a registration number.

Why do I need car insurance and what cover is available

Car insurance is a legal requirement for anyone intending to use or keep a car on the public highway under the road traffic act of 1991. There are 3 types of cover for car insurance and these consist of: Third Party Only - this is the most basic of cover for car insurance and covers you for third party bodily injury and damage to third party property.Third Party Fire and theft- this covers all of the above plus fire and theft cover.Comprehensive- This insurance covers both of the above plus accidental damage to your car.

Will I need any additional security on my imported car?

Some of the lower risk vehicles like the Toyota Estima and the Mazda Eunos would normally not require any additional security however the higher risk vehicles would normally require some form of security to be fitted to them by an approved fitter, these types of vehicles would include Mitsubishi Evo's, Nissan Skylines and Subaru Impreza's.
